I work with educators
Most of the work I do involves directly interacting with educators In small and large groups to inspire them, give them confidence, help them understand the NGSS and perhaps most importantly the instructional shifts put forward in A Framework for K – 12 Science education. Ideally this happens in person – especially the first work I do with educators – with virtual support being an important part of a continuing dialogue and relationship with educators and schools.
I work with schools
Changing systems requires understanding, intention and attention. Most often the model a school and I arrive at involves working with schools across two or three years. My first work involves detailed conversations with leadership and evaluation of scope and sequence and relevant work. I work in person and with virtual support to facilitate the school’s transition and to work towards a school’s deep understanding and autonomy in moving forward with their science program. This usually involves work at all levels of organization and, importantly, empowering individuals at the school to maintain effective change over time (with my support when needed).
One ambitious model Involves bringing me out three to five times for 4 or 5 days each across one entire year. While there, I work at all levels of organization and with grade level teams. Schools have done this in lieu of hiring a science coach. I work with schools to get into classrooms with teachers and do lab work. The system and educators are transformed and STEM leadership or other individuals are empowered to move the vision of a transformed science education forward.
